Founder Lars Larsen opened his first store in Denmark in 1979. Today, JYSK has 31,000 employees.

JYSK is owned by the family behind the Lars Larsen Group, with a total turnover of 45 billion DKK for the financial year 2023/2024. JYSK’s turnover for the 2023-2024 financial year is 41.4 billion DKK.

JYSK entered the Bulgarian market in 2005. To date, the retail chain has 55 stores with over 800 employees. JYSK Bulgaria's logistics center is located in a state industrial park in Bozhurishte.
